Hibiscus Coast AFC boasts one of the best Premier Women’s programmes in New Zealand

Hibiscus Coast AFC elite senior women’s programme plays in the NRFL Women’s Premier League, the highest division for female football in New Zealand.

The programme consists of two teams within the one squad, Women’s Firsts and Reserves. Before every season, any player can submit their interest and trial for the squad.

About Our Programme

Hibiscus Coast AFC is one of the very few clubs in the wider Auckland region that has equal resourcing and equal player agreements to its men’s programme.

The programme’s Head Coach and Head of Women’s Football, Asher Trotter, has built, grown, and led our programme to great success over the past 5+ years, including:

  • 2022 NRFL Championship winners (unbeaten)
  • 2022 NRFL Carol Waller Cup winners (unbeaten)
  • 2023 U19 National Championship (unbeaten)

Our programme offers the following for all players both Firsts and Reserves:

  • Zero fees for all players
  • Same contract for all signed players (Firsts and Reserves)
  • Reimbursements for every First Team match appearance*
  • Team apparel and gear supplied to all players
  • All matches recorded and analysed with Veo
  • Female physio treatment and support
  • Strength and conditioning coaching
  • Access to 1-1 and small-group technical development
  • Access to player mentoring from licensed coaches
  • Professional matchday experience
  • Professional changing room experience

* Reimbursements up to $150 per match maximum, as per New Zealand Football Amateur Player Agreement (APA) regulations.

Environment

  • True player-first, high-performance culture and environment.
  • Some of the best coaches and support staff in New Zealand, all of whom are licensed, qualified and dedicated to the female game.

Pre-Season

  • Open trials start Thursday 1 February 2024
  • All trainings based on the North Shore (Albany)
  • 2-3 sessions per week during pre-season
  • Submit your interest to get pre-season notifications

Season

  • 2 trainings per week on Tues/Thurs
  • All trainings based on the North Shore (Long Bay)
  • Season starts Sunday 24 March 2024
  • Season finishes Sunday 8 September 2024
  • National League starts Sunday 29 September 2024
  • NRFL Cup (TBC) starts Sunday 15 September 2024

Matches

  • Played mostly on Sundays with some Friday night games
  • Reserves typically KO 11am Sundays
  • Firsts typically KO 1pm Sundays

Asher Trotter

Head Coach

Asher Trotter (Ngāti Ruanui) joined the Club with a vision to build an elite women’s programme worthy of New Zealand’s top level of female football. Asher has nurtured the environment, coaches, and players over the past 5+ years and has a great track record of success (4 trophies in 5 years), as well as helping talent develop into high-performance athletes worthy of competing at the top level, winning national championships, and achieving overseas college scholarships.

Asher is also Head Coach for the Māori Women’s National Team (Ngā Wāhine Whanapoikiri), and is a big advocate for the growth and success of all female football across Aotearoa.

Maurie Wasi

Development Coach

Maurie Wasi has signed in 2024 as our new Women’s Premier Reserves Head Coach and Lead Development Coach for our new Girls Youth Academy in partnership with East Coast Bays.

Maurie will be working closely with Nathan Cranney (TDF) and Asher Trotter (Head of Women’s Football) in his various new roles at the club to lead and develop female football. Maurie brings with him a wealth of experience in both youth and senior football, domestically and internationally with OFC and Papua New Guinea. Maurie comes to us from Western Springs, a well-known club with programmes in the NRFL.

Qualification(s): OFC/NZF B License (In Progress).

Mitch Joynt

Conditioning Coach

Current professional and full-time paralympic sprinter representing New Zealand at the highest levels, Mitch Joynt has years of experience across multiple sporting codes at the highest level both domestically and internationally, and has recently been involved in coaching aspiring athletes too.

  • Current NZ & Oceania record-holder in 100m, 200m and 400m Sprints
  • 2019: 8th in 200m & 14th in 100m at World Para-Athletics Championship
  • 2017: 16th at Snowboard World Cup
  • 2011: World Junior Bowhunter Champion

Adam Frisby

Goalkeeper Coach

Adam Frisby is our resident goalkeeper coach, having joined our #CoastWomen journey in 2021 and supporting both teams to achieve outstanding results through exceptional goalkeeper development.

Adam brings high energy, fun and a lot of tailored development to his sessions. He is incredibly committed to seeing our female goalkeepers grow and succeeed, and is a loyal, passionate supporter of our #CoastWomen vision and mission.
